Best Practices for Newborn Safety in the Studio
In my studio here in Manasquan, I follow strict safety protocols to ensure that every session is as safe and comfortable as possible for your baby. Here are a few of the best practices I always follow:
1. Temperature Control
Newborns are highly sensitive to temperature changes. That’s why I make sure the studio is always warm and cozy during our sessions. I keep the temperature at a level that’s comfortable for a baby who may be swaddled or undressed for certain poses. The goal is to create an environment that allows them to feel relaxed and peaceful, which also helps them fall asleep for those adorable, sleepy shots.
2. Supportive Posing
Newborns have very delicate bodies, especially in the first few weeks of life. Their heads and necks need constant support. I only use safe posing techniques that prioritize the baby’s comfort and never put any strain on their body. Popular poses, like the “froggy pose,” are often composites, where I use a series of images stitched together in post-production to ensure the baby is never placed in an unsafe position.
3. Safe Use of Props
I love using simple, elegant props in my newborn photography sessions, but safety always comes first. All of the props in my Manasquan studio—blankets, baskets, wraps, and headbands—are specifically chosen for their softness and stability. I inspect each prop before every session to ensure they’re in perfect condition.
4. Sanitization
Cleanliness is a priority in my studio. Newborns have delicate immune systems, so I make sure to sanitize all props, blankets, and surfaces before and after each session. This attention to cleanliness helps protect your baby’s health while allowing you to feel comfortable and confident during the session.
